About the Society

The Kenya Mathematical Society (KMS) is a scientific non-political society established to promote teaching, research, and application of Mathematics and related sciences in Kenya. Our constitution, last amended on August 19, 1988, guides our operations and governance.

We serve as the leading voice for mathematicians across Kenya, fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government. KMS has grown to become a vibrant community of researchers, educators, students, institutional members, and industry professionals working together to advance mathematical sciences in Kenya and beyond.

To be the premier mathematical society in East Africa, recognized for excellence in research, education, and innovation, while contributing to national development through mathematical sciences.

Our Aims and Objectives

Teaching & Research

Promote teaching, research and application of Mathematics and related sciences in Kenya

Professional Collaboration

Provide a forum for discussion and cooperation among mathematicians and related professionals

Regional & International

Interact with other mathematicians regionally and internationally

Public Understanding

Disseminate information to promote public understanding of the role and potential of Mathematics

National Reach

Form branches throughout Kenya to stimulate and maintain interest in mathematics

Non-Political

Engage in non-political professional activities related to Mathematics

Our History

1980s - Foundation

Founded by mathematicians in Kenya recognizing the benefits of sharing scientific knowledge and mathematical ideas. Constitution amended August 19, 1988.

1990s - Growth

Established regular seminars, symposia, and workshops across various areas of Mathematics throughout Kenya

2000s - Expansion

Launched scientific bulletins and journals, began hosting biennial general meetings and conferences

2010s - Partnerships

Expanded membership categories and established partnerships with regional and international mathematical societies

2020s - Digital Era

Embraced digital transformation, enhanced online presence, and modernized member services

Governance Structure

KMS is governed by an Executive Committee as outlined in our Constitution, ensuring representation throughout the Republic of Kenya.
